CLEMENCE POESY

ZOOEY DESCHANEL

LANA DEL REY

LANA DEL REY

LAVENDER MERMAID
Happy Saturday lovelies! Hope you're all having a relaxing weekend! I wanted to share with you some illustrated lovelies before I get snuggled down to watch a Saturday afternoon film (Saturdays are for super cool films like The Lost Boys, Super 8, retro Disney) They are all available as prints in my etsy shop to hang on pink bedroom walls, or keep you company in your studio. I know there's two of Lana Del Rey but you gotta love her. Have you listened to Born To Die yet? #amaze

I'm working on some more loveliness at the moment which involves some of my favourite tv shows, more on that probably over at my blog soon! What are you enjoying watching lately?

Out & About: Go Figure: New Fashion Illustration Exhibition at the LCF

This looks like a great exhibition, featuring Lesley Barnes, friend of T&C; amongst other amazing fashion illustrators. 'Ligaya Salazar, contemporary curator at the Victoria & Albert Museum, follows on from her celebrated retrospective of Yohji Yamaoto’s career with this exhibition at London College of Fashion’s Fashion Space Gallery.'

"The exhibition brings together more than sixty works from thirteen different fashion illustrators who work in a variety of media, from the digital to the hand-drawn via the physical. Each of these illustrators comes from a very different background, from fashion design, photography to animation. We wanted to reflect what is really going on in the field rather than get caught up in a debate around which way of making is better than another way."

Featured illustrators:
Richard Kilroy
Artaksiniya
Tara Dougans
Hanna Mueller
Jarno Kettunen
Rosie McGuinness
Zoya Smirnova
Lesley Barnes
Cristian Grossi
Laura Laine
Ingela Och V
Eugenia Alejos

New work from Kayleigh

Hey guys. Just a little Sunday post to show you my latest piece of work. I painted this canvas yesterday - it took me all afternoon/part of the evening. It's an image from the latest issue of Company Magazine - I thought it was a gorgeous picture so wanted to see if I could do it justice.
I'm quite pleased with it considering I haven't painted on canvas in a very long time. Part of me thought I couldn't do it anymore. Here are a few images of work in progress ::

I love the 50's vibe with the polka dot shirt and pastel colour palette. Now I want to freshen up my paint box and see what I can come up with next. I think the painting bug has bitten me again...

T&C Inspired: Ella Kirk

Hi crayonettes!

Had a good week? Glad it's the weekend? We are, and we've got some lovely visual treats from our friend Ella, textile designer and illustrator, all the way in sunny Canada.  We love her intricate and quirky illustrations, she enjoy's an occasional robot and a mixtape and we love it.
Designing under the alias Milk Milk Lemonade you might've seen Ella's funky and colourful scarves adorning the rails of Topshop Oxford Street.

Name
Ella Kirk

Where are you from:
I'm from a teeny town in the countryside in Derbyshire, England but I've lived in Vancouver, Canada for the past year and a bit.

Tell us a little bit about your work:
I studied 'surface pattern design' at Leeds College of Art and Design and like to create patterns and illustrations mainly for fashion textiles under the design name 'Milk Milk Lemonade'. I like to draw animals, robots, household items and insects and love to mash up unexpected item combinations to create quirky and interesting compositions. I also love to use a bit of typography wherever I can.

What’s your favourite tea:
My favourite tea is English Breakfast, or if I'm feeling fancy I'll go for a strawberry and kiwi blend.

T&C Inspired: Kerri-Ann Hulme

Hi loves! Hope you're all having a good week.

We invited T&C friend Kerri-Ann Hulme this week to share her wonderfully delicate and beautiful pencil drawings with us. We're adoring the little caspian seal she created for creature mag's endangered animal project and her hand drawn type 'We could be kings and queens'. Kerri-Ann shares alot of the same inspirations through fairytales and story telling as us crayons which is probably why we love her work so much :)

Name
Hello, my name is Kerri-Ann Hulme.

Where are you from:
I'm from a small town called Widnes in Cheshire.

Tell us a little bit about your work:
I would describe my work as whimsical, which reflects on childhood themes. I am particularly interested in children's books and hope to one day write and illustrate my own story. I love painting with acrylics on a large scale or drawing true to life portraits doing tone and shading with pencils. I'm currently just starting a few personal projects and sorting out my portfolio as it's a new year and time for brand new work. Also, I am one third of the collective Pencils, Paper, Scissors and we have just sent our first collaborative project to the printers and are expecting it back any day now. It is a circus themed colouring book and we are so excited to share it with everyone.

Who, what and/or where inspires you:
I am inspired by many things including fairytales, magic, animals and people. The golden age illustrators such as Arthur Rackham, Kay Nielsen and Harry Clarke have been one of my main inspirations since I first decided I wanted to illustrate because I find myself getting lost in their pictures as they are so full of beautiful detail. I have recently discovered two amazing book illustrators, the work of Inga Moore (she illustrated The Secret Garden) and Jill Barklem (author and illustrator of the Brambly Hedge children's books), if you love children's books as much as me they are definitely ones to look out for.

What’s your favourite tea:
I don't like tea! :( (It always surprises us when people don't like tea)

T&C Inspired: Joanne Hawker

Hi loves! Hope you're all having a good weekend.

We have a new T&C inspired section where we'll be featuring some of our favourite illustrators, designers and general creative types and chatting to them about their beautiful work.

Our first is the very lovely artist, Joanne Hawker who sent us some gorgeous illustrations (the owl is a personal fave of mine, she must've known we like a bird drawing). She has such a lovely delicate and organic style to her work.

Name:
Joanne Hawker

Where are you from:
I’m from a little village in a small corner of South Somerset.

Tell us a little bit about your work:
My work tends to be quite varied as I still feel that I haven’t found my one true style yet so I like to experiment with lots of different techniques and ideas. Everything I do starts as a little biro doodle in my notebook and then I draw it neatly, ink it up, scan it in and render it digitally in Photoshop or illustrator or sometimes both! A lot of my work focuses around the natural world, as I tend to have many obsessions with woodland animals so expect to see a few foxes or owls in my work. I also have bit of thing for paper textures so they also play a huge part in the backgrounds of my creations.  This year I’m going to try and experiment with being a bit more minimal as its something I find difficult. Basically, I like to try and do a bit of everything when it comes to my work!

Who, what and/or where inspires you:
As I said above the natural world plays a big part in my work, so a trip to the woods or the beach can spark off a variety of ideas. Or even the early morning cycle ride through the country lanes to work has been known to throw up a few ideas. There are a huge number of people on twitter who inspire me on a daily basis but there are too many to name so if you want to know who just read through the massive list of people I follow! :)

What’s your favourite tea:
Tea! My favourite drink! Yum! I have to have at least 3 cups minimum of PG Tips or Clipper Tea everyday. Can’t beat it! Or as a treat I love love love Whitards fruit tea. Elderflower or Summer Fruits being my favourites.

You can buy her wonderful little calendar (pictured below) on her etsy shop, we'll be wanting to get our hands on one of those to keep our plans in order :)

Happy Sunday loves!
Are you all having a good weekend? This blog is a little bit late, but better late than never! Last sunday the Rachels went along to Homemade London to take part in a crafty filled day with Domestic Sluttery making postcards and drinking tea! An ideal sunday afternoon for us crayonettes.

We went along early to join in the bookbinding workshop which was super fun (and for someone who hasn't picked up a needle and thread since school - surprisingly easy!)

Ta daa... aren't our notebooks adorable?!

Rachel L - hard at work cutting and sticking postards :)

My postcard - a work in progress

We had a lovely day, many thanks to the girls at Homemade London, Domestic Sluttery!
Rach L has a few more piccies cause she was clever enough to remember a camera, but she's away on her hols (jealous) so they'll have to wait til she's back in London town.

Jotta.com Interview with Rachel L

Hope you're all having good sundays and have had nice productive weeks? We certainly have; it's all go here at T&C HQ!

I was kindly interviewed by the lovely peeps at Jotta, who have just launched a competition in conjunction with Wacom Bamboo, and are on the hunt for drawn definitions of ‘Style’. They asked to interview me on my own opinions of the definition of style, especially within fashion illustration. They were also interested in Tea & Crayons and how we individually tackle the idea of style.

Click here to read the full article on jotta.com – here’s a small extract however:

Why did you start the Tea and Crayons collective, and how did you all meet?
We all met through Twitter actually; which sounds a lot stranger than it is! There's a very close community of illustrators on there, and it came about quite organically - we are from all over the country but in some ways this makes us quite unique. We started it because as a freelance illustrator, it can be quite a lonely existence - at first it was quite a casual set up, emailing each other for support, advice, but now we share contacts, promote each other's work, have a collective blog and aim to have an exhibition this year. There is no way any of us would be able to contact so many art directors and drum up so much interest if we were all still working solo.

What are the varying types of fashion illustration which the other members create?
Abby Wright is very much about the detail and precision, she loves illustrating jewellery and embellished clothing. She works mainly digitally so this really suits her. Whereas Natasha Thompson and Rachel Price prefer a much more soft, feminine type which alludes to fairytales and the romance of fashion. Kayleigh Bluck and myself like to be quite true to the original designs and represent them in that way, whereas Fritha Strickland has a wonderful childlike-quality to her work which is less about true representation and more about how the clothes make you feel.

The competition is great as well; submit your entry for the chance to win an iPad2 with an awesome Bamboo Stylus pen, which allows you to draw directly onto your iPad!
“Have you ever wanted to capture your thoughts on the iPad? Ever wanted to be creative, to draw and sketch on it, just like on a note book?
Wacom’s brand new Bamboo Stylus allows you to do exactly this. It is ideal for handwriting notes, drawing, sketching and much more on your iPad.
How to win this incredible bundle? Take this canvas and show us what it means to you to be stylish. Draw, sketch or write about your personal definition of “STYLE”.
Upload your stylish imagery or illustration here
You can increase your chances of making it into the TOP 10 by getting all your friends to like your creation. Our jury will then select the most creative and inventive submission. The winner gets one brand new Bamboo Stylus AND an iPad2.
The remaining shortlisted entries will get one Bamboo Stylus each.”
Thanks so much for the interview, Jotta!
